A Study on Recognition of Vision in Elementary School Teacher

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition of vision in elementary school teachers and suggest to them the interest and guidance for vision of elementary students. Methods: Survey were made by 112 elementary school teachers in Hwa-sung city Gyeonggi-do from April to July in 2011. 100 subjects were selected and analyzed for this study and 12 subjects who give inadequate answer the questionnaire were excluded. Result: 88% of teachers recognized ophthalmologist is right profession for deal with eye problem. 76% of teachers had experience refering to eye profession to their students. 24% of teachers thought vision education is included in the school curriculum and 80% of teachers thought vision education should be included in the school curriculum. 71% of teachers recognized the term of visual dysfunction, 54% of teachers recognized the therm of low vision, 22% of teachers recognized the term of vision therapy. 22% of teachers thought it is possible to recognize visual disorder by only symptom. 46% of teachers prefer internet web-site for providing vision education. Conclusion: Vision education is necessary for elementary school teachers as lack of visual information and low recognition for vision in their group.
